I am a freelance copyeditor and proofreader. I believe that life is a fascinating journey even if it's not always an easy ride. Proudly, I can say I have over half a century of life experience. I love the energy of youth but age and experience can give you perspective (although I wouldn't mind being 21 again with the knowledge I know now...lol!). I welcomed technology, have been on the Internet since AOL first told us, "you've got mail," yet I remember the manual typewriter (and thank you, technology, for making that a relic!).
Much as I enjoy technology and the possibilities of the future, I believe there is much to be learned from the past, if we just pause long enough to listen. My interests are diverse…love animals (have two adopted dogs )…nature photography (just an amateur but I find taking photos of birds, butterflies on flowers, spiders and insects to be quite calming)…gardening…hiking...genealogy… antiques and old photos…writing now and then…listening to music (various from rock, jazz and blues to classical)…current events (pretty much a news junkie)…and politics (have worked for political candidates in the past and was an office manager for someone running for Congress many years ago in CA.) Currently building a website for my editing business.
Although my life has been a bumpy road since childhood (sick mom, orphanage, foster care), I decided at a young age not to dwell on the sadness but instead to look for the sun behind the clouds. Not always an easy thing to do but I've tried to carry that philosophy throughout my life. Over the years I've learned that every morning is a new beginning so the best thing to do is greet each day with a freshly-brewed cup of coffee and a smile. Life has taught me the importance of being open-minded to the views of others, even when you adamantly disagree, and the importance of compassion, because as bad as things may be at the moment, there are so many in less fortunate circumstances, and as the old adage goes, "there but for the grace of God go I." So true.
I joined the Newsvine community in 2009 but didn't do much and only occasionally commented on articles. Recently, I decided to participate more actively by seeding articles, commenting on articles seeded or written by others, and I may write an occasional article. Glad to make friends and meet other Viners!
